Rules of The Dojang’s

The following is a set of guidelines outlining the expected conduct for members at Tsunami while training in any of the the Dojang’s:

  • Prior to entering and leaving the Dojang (training hall), members are required to bow.

  • All watches and jewelry must be removed before training.

  • Bowing is mandatory and necessary upon encountering a Master or instructor.

  • Instructors should be addressed as "Instructor (first name)", "Sabon nim." or “Sir/Miss”

  • Bowing to higher grades is mandatory before engaging in conversation with them.

  • When entering or leaving the class, bowing and catching an Instructor's attention is essential, especially once the class has commenced.

  • Smoking, eating, or drinking, including chewing gum, is strictly prohibited in the dojang.

  • When adjusting your uniform during class, bow to your Instructor or partner first, then turn your back to make adjustments. Afterward, turn to face your Instructor or partner, and bow again.

  • A clean, pressed uniform is required for all classes.

  • Talking during classes is not permitted unless given permission from instructor or specifically addressed .

  • No bad language should be used in any of the Dojangs at any time

  • Arrive at least 5 minutes before the start of a weekday session, and at the time stated for any other events such as a course or grading.

  • Students who arrive late to class must make sure to gain the attention of the Instructor/ Assistant Instructor taking the class and bow to them before joining class

  • Advise their Club Instructor, in advance, if they cannot make their regular session or any other event they have been selected for

The Taekwondo Tenets

The Taekwondo tenets, also known as the Five Tenets of Taekwondo, are guiding principles that practitioners are encouraged to uphold. These tenets are:

  1. Courtesy (Ye-ui): Showing politeness and respect to others, both inside and outside the dojang (training hall).

  2. Integrity (Yom-chi): Upholding moral and ethical principles, being honest, and doing what is right, even when no one is watching.

  3. Perseverance (In-nae): Demonstrating determination, persistence, and resilience in the face of challenges and difficulties.

  4. Self-Control (Guk-gi): Exercising restraint and discipline, both in actions and emotions, to maintain composure and avoid impulsive behavior.

  5. Indomitable Spirit (Baek-jeol-bul-gul): Having an unbreakable will, courage, and a positive attitude, even in the face of adversity.

These tenets serve as a foundation for the development of moral character and guide practitioners on and off the training mat.

The Taekwondo Student's Pledge is a commitment made by Taekwondo practitioners all over the world to uphold the principles and tenets of Taekwondo. The pledge is as follows:

As a student of Taekwondo:

  1. I will observe the tenets of Taekwondo.

  2. I will respect my instructors and seniors.

  3. I will never misuse Taekwondo.

  4. I will be a champion of freedom and justice.

  5. I will build a more peaceful world."

This pledge reinforces the importance of adhering to the tenets of Taekwondo and promotes values such as respect, responsibility, and the pursuit of positive contributions to society.

Codes of Conduct

  1. I pledge to uphold respect for myself, fellow students, and Instructors.

  2. commit to actively listening and learning from my Instructor, Assistant Instructors, and fellow students to the best of my abilities.

  3. I will consistently put forth 100% effort in my lessons.

  4. In my personal time, I will practice Taekwondo responsibly, ensuring safety for myself and those around me.

  5. I acknowledge that the essence of Taekwondo lies in self-defense, and I vow never to misuse it for personal gain or to exploit others.

This code serves as a pledge, aligning with the principles derived from the Taekwondo Tenets. It encapsulates the values of respect, discipline, and sportsmanship that are integral to our martial arts philosophy. As members of our Taekwondo family, adhering to this code fosters a positive and inclusive environment, ensuring a rich learning experience both on and off the mats.

Students Code:

  1. Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every person, irrespective of their gender, ability, cultural background, or religion.

  2. Recognize that your child engages in the sport for their enjoyment, emphasizing their efforts and performance over winning or losing.

  3. Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.

  4. Avoid ridiculing or yelling at your child or student for making a mistake or losing a competition.

  5. Show appreciation for good performances from all Taekwondoists, including those from other teams or schools.

  6. Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility, especially when dealing with or in the vicinity of persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions set an example.

  7. Respect the decisions of instructors and officials, and teach children to do likewise.

  8. Refrain from any physical or verbal abuse or harassment directed at anyone associated with Tsunami Taekwondo (participants, coaches, judges, etc.).

  9. Be a positive role model for your child and others.

  10. Allow fellow parents the respect they deserve in their viewing or involvement in their child’s participation.

  11. Be aware of the repercussions that any breaches of this code of behavior may incur.

As a parent of a participant in any activity conducted by TSUNAMI TAEKWONDO, or affiliated club, it is essential to adhere to the following requirements regarding your conduct and behavior during any such activity or event:
